Linda Ellis Copyright - The Dash is Dead!!! 6.12.96 - 6.12.2016 RIP
I Declare The Dash Extortion Scheme is dead
Don't think for a minute that Linda Ellis has stopped sending extortion letters. She hasn't. She still demands money from anyone who shares The Dash poem without her permission. What has changed is the amount of content that now permeates the Internet warning people not to post The Dash and the consequences if they do. Of course there really are no consequences if her targets choose to ignore her. I surmise is that only the really low hanging fruit end up in the juice factory these days. It's hard to feel sorry for people who refuse to believe that a Christian author would abuse her readers like Linda Ellis does. Stupid is as stupid does.
v. 15 Stupid people always think they are right. Wise people listen to advice.
v. 16 When a fool is annoyed, he quickly lets it be known. Smart people will ignore an insult.
v. 17 When you tell the truth, justice is done, but lies lead to injustice.
BEWARE DON'T SHARE THE DASH
I come from rock solid Christian hard working roots. I was raised Southern Baptist and I understand the willingness of Christians to believe another Christian no matter their own sensibilities. The ease of deception makes the religious especially susceptible to the scam. Ellis either forgets that her targets are real people with real lives or she doesn't care. Ellis makes the simple act of sharing the devil's work. She calls her fans and readers liars, thieves, criminals and claims that what we report about her is a smear campaign. She says her readers are guilty of "exaggerating" and we are telling flat out "lies". Yet it's Ellis who sends the letters, Ellis who denies that she does and Ellis who can't face the truth of her own words and deeds. She is a copyright troll and the bright light of truth is blazing down on her.
Why Do People Share Content?
Linda Ellis' readers share because they care about the person they are sharing the poem with. We aren't thinking about her greed or copyright. We aren't selling The Dash. We aren't sharing to advertise and we don't give a rat's ass about paying a license fee. My guess is if Ellis sold the poem for $5 she wouldn't find many takers. Consider this, I paid $1 for the photo at the top of this blog post.
Why Is Linda Ellis So Mean to Her Readers?
I can only guess that until she decided to try and silence me and I decided to fight back, life had been pretty much a cakewalk. She copyrighted a version of The Dash - there are three on record - in 1996 and got almost no pushback for 20 years. in early 2012, the Dash Extortion Scheme brought in tens of thousands of dollars and maybe hundreds of thousands annually. That money made Ellis appear as if she was a successful author and poet. In truth, Ellis' financial success can be credited to her copyright trolling operation. That money is now all but gone and that fact will never change. Linda Ellis will never again find success as a copyright troll.
Who Is the Author Of The Dash Poem
Most people find The Dash as "author unknown" or "anonymous" or with no author attribution. Most people Linda Ellis found it exactly the same way and added her name to it and copyrighted it. She began almost immediately sending out letters demanding money for copyright infringement.
Linda Ellis tries to convince her fans that readers are stealing her words. She has no understanding of the heartache she has shamelessly spread around the world. Fortunately we are witnessing the end of her plan to live rich and famous with the legacy of The Dash under her family's control. One can only imagine how many times her children, husband and friends have cautioned her to stop. They are a witness to two decades of harassment and abuse she has visited upon the world. What person in their right mind would want to follow in her footsteps? The legacy of The Dash will continue to unravel wth every new target and every new story.
Linda Ellis Victims
We have helped more than 300 people avoid paying her. I know her targets. Many have cried alligator tears, others rage and swear, a few lost jobs over sharing that stupid poem and I know of three organizations that folded or went underground to avoid the harassment. We've collaborated with angry attorneys, annoyed insurance agents, bereavement professionals and shocked educators. I've collected hundreds of stories, thousands of exhibits and become friends with many I've helped. All good people who simply shared 244 words.
If you are a target of Linda Ellis and if she has sent you an extortion letter remember
