This is the initial damage I hired Manny Regalado to fix. He was to build a pitched roof over a flat roof. He tore off the flat roof instead of waiting out the storm. Every room in my house was damaged. Worse, he lied about his skills. When the subcontractors stopped coming back his ineptitude was revealed. I was unaware that this is his modus operandi. He bid 30K and one month. Everything he installed has to be replaced. Because he failed to properly tarp the roof (see his ridiculous tarping idea) he racked up over 130k in damages. I’ve hired a new contractor and each day reveals another mess.
Manny Regalado is a classic con man. The Dirty John of home design and remodeling. He acts without conscience and seeks out senior citizens, charities and low income - people who have little ability to recover from his destruction.

Manuel Leon Regalado II is a fraud. 11 Judgments recorded in Los Angeles County. All are unpaid default judgments. He is currently operating his con in the Seattle area. His first target and victim is April Brown in Shoreline, Washington. He goes by Manny and is overly friendly and uses the same manipulative methods as Dirty John from the true crime podcast based on the life of John Michael Meehan. He embezzled over $10,000 from April Brown and damaged her home, causing $60,000 in repairs. Was able to fool 3 insurance agents and defrauded Allstate of nearly $100,000. Report him to the police if he pops up in your area. This page will be continually updated. If you have been victimized, fill out this form.
Manny Regalado showed up on March 29, 2018 at Whisker City Cat Rescue in Shoreline, Washington offering to perform handyman work. He performed basic carpentry skills and his work appeared average to good. He hung around and befriended volunteers. He said he was married and came to Washington to retire. He said his wife was in Mexico settling the estate of her recently deceased father. He said he had 4 children with 3 women and he visited them often and said he was excited to show them Whisker City. He said he was wealthy, owned a multi-million dollar home in Ibiza, Spain. He explained away his old truck, bad teeth and lack of tools by saying he was tired of the celebrity life and moved to Seattle from Los Angeles to help people. He said he was looking to buy property in Snohomish County large enough for an airstrip for his plane stored in California. Once, he offered me a large sum of money, saying he had more than he could ever spend. I replied with, “why would you offer me money when you have 4 children to put through college?”. He answered, “You know how it is in LA. Because of my celebrity, I had to pay child support through 18 years old in advance”. I said, “nobody has to do that”. He replied, “I had to put up college funds on top of that! My children are taken care of for life just from my investments. They will never have to work if they don’t want too.”
I’ve talked with many of his victims. We’ve all are kicking ourselves for not trusting our gut about his stories. When faced with a bull-shit artist, we often brush off the lying as harmless, and maybe coming from a chance encounter or stranger it can be. But when these cons infiltrate your life, they can cause severe unrecoverable financial damage. Think Bernie Madoff and all the cons profiled on American Greed. Manny Regalado is a sociopath. He manipulates, gaslights, and is too charming. I’m 30 years older than Regalado, but he managed to convince the sub-contractors that I was his girlfriend. I later learned he told the sub-contractors he was working on my house for free. There is a very good article on Bustle 13 Common Mind Games Sociopaths Play In Everyday Life To Watch Out For By CAROLYN STEBER. Manny Regalado used every single one Steber cites to manipulate me.

I have known Manny Regalado for 5 years. And I made a huge mistake to hire him for the remodel of my house before my baby was to be born in September of 2016. Long story short he stole over $50,000 from me. He failed to deliver all of our kitchen appliances, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, tiles and countertops , and some furniture. I have sued him in Superior Court , which he never showed up to and was granted a judgment of $48,000. It has almost been a year since this nightmare and every single month I get contacted by other victims of his asking for advise. He has not only stolen from his clients but multiple contractors, carpenters, flooring installers, and vendors. Manny Regalado is a con-artist and every word out of his mouth is 100% BS. My Superior Court case number is bc641878. It is a public record and anyone is welcome to review my case if there is any doubt about my experience.

I am the board member of a condominium complex that contracted with Manny Regalado to renovate our buiding. We were defrauded by Mr. Regalado of $20,000. We sued him in small claims court last week for the maximum allowable, hoping to get some of our money back. Mr. Regalado did not show up for the trial date so we were awarded a judgment. This has been extremely distresssingsince man of our tenants are elderly and have limited income and savings. Shame on you Manny. Please return our money. It looks like this conman has moved to start a business under A to Z Contracting Corp. Mike D.
Seems that you two have such a great experiences, Would you please ask Manny to give us a call. I left good amount of messages begging Manny to call us back but I could not reach him. Emailed couple times but no response.
Doctor and I gave you our trust. You can not do this to us. When you read this message, I'm sure you know who this is. I want you to call me. You need to finish all the art work and refund those undelivered items. You can not stay in business doing patch up reviews. You have to stand behind for your words and your work. At the end of the day, our children will suffer the consequences for our actions.
Judy and Bradley,
He is a con-artist and a fraud. He left our project unfinished and ran off with our money. Not only did he not buy lights, fixtures, appliances, flooring and other items we had paid him for (and for which we have receipts, copies of checks and email confirmation), he also did not pay the vendors and service providers, causing a lien to be placed on our property. See LA Superior Court Case No. 641878.
Manny owes me money as well. DO NOT USE!!!
The worst experience ever. "manny" or manuel regalado is absolutely unprofessional and talks to his customers is such a demeaning manner. he left our project uncompleted with nothing to show besides a torn down space. do not hire. turn away. go somewhere else. find a professional who knows what they are doing and is respectful to their customers.
The worst experience of my life. Manny is a con artist and a thief. He stole over $50k from us during our remodel. We have sued him and how have a default judgement against him. DO NOT HIRE. He failed to deliver our plumbing and light fixtures, all of our appliances, some flooring and tile, and furniture. And we have learned that there's a lot more people he has done this to. DO NOT HIRE!!!!
Do not use!!! Manny Regalado is a liar. He lies about inconsequential matters. He came into our home and bragged he is a Houzz preferred contractor and showed us photos that we later found out were not even his work. We wrote him a check and he never paid the suppliers!!! I hesitate to say this, but he pretended to be gay to reel us in. I'm embarrassed to admit we fell for every one of his tricks. We begged him to give us our money back and he said he would but he never did. Manny you are a sociopath!
A decorator I have known for 14 years, Manny Regalado, did not deliver the items that were paid in full. I hired him to redecorate my home, he was frantic about deposits, lied about the furniture being in his warehouse, asked for full payment and when it was time to deliver the furniture he said he ran out of money. I contacted the companies to see if they had my items and was told nothing was ordered! I had worked with the designer may times over the past 10 years with no problems. I am in contact with several other clients whom he defrauded. Police report has been filed, one client took him to court, won the judgment, but the decorator never showed up. He has multiple default judgments in Los Angeles County.

Manny Regalado of A to Z Contracting Corp claimed he was a highly experience contractor from Los Angeles. He claimed he’s dealt with dozens of insurance claims in Los Angeles County. He claimed he was licensed and bonded in Los Angeles County. He said he had a degree in electrical engineering and has remodeled and flipped houses for 20 years. He’s 37 years old. The fact is he is only recently licensed and bonded in Washington.
I hired Manny Regalado on December 10, 2018 to repair a roof leak on a flat roof and contained to one corner. The leak was a slow leak and happened while I was out of town for 3 days. The storm was quite fierce and labeled a “Catastrophe” by Allstate. The fact is that nearly all of the damage to my home was caused because he removed my flat roof during the storm and failed to tarp the roof properly. I was able to file a claim with Allstate but the damage was and still is far beyond that claim.
Manny Regalado’s tore off my entire flat roof during a persistent storm. He should have tarped the flat roof and waited out the storm. He tore off the roof on a calm day but the next day the a storm returned and water poured in damaging 5 rooms of my house. The bulk of the damage was because he tore the roof off rather than waiting out the storm. He built tents out of plastic and 2 x 4’s over half my house and used sand bags to hold the plastic. These did not hold and the holes he made in the good part of my roof caused leaks in 6 locations. These leaks were difficult to trace and caused damage to other parts of my home. Because he tore off the roof, rain poured into my home for 3 weeks. I live alone and I had to manage pumps and empty heavy bins of water 24 hours a day alone. He left me to fend for myself. This was traumatic for someone of my age and slight build. I had to climb an extension ladder dozens of times a day to push off the water bellies in the tarps. I put a lawn chair on my roof to supervise the tarps at night during torrential rains. This was a very dangerous situation. I tried to mitigate the damage with little support fro this contractor. The tarps blew off nearly every day and Manny did return to put them back but they leaked continually. Each time he came back he added more 2 x 4’s and bought more tarps. He also tied them to my fence posts and the wind and rain buildup pulled over the posts. I had to replace 7 sections of fencing as well.
Because he tore off my entire roof, I had more than 50 plastic bins on the floor and on the outside of the ceiling catching rain. I had big garbage cans with pumps that had to be monitored by the minute. I washed and dried 8 loads of laundry every day until both appliances burned out. The heavy wet towels destroyed my new washer and the dryer finally failed. I then used the appliances of a neighbor and a laundry mat. Again, his tarping concept caused the damage and trauma.
All my cabinets were damaged or completely destroyed. All my appliances were damaged. Gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, hot water dispenser, refrigerator. I provided receipts that show my dishwasher and stove was repaired one week prior to the storm. All my appliances were in excellent condition.
I was forced to live in one room – the bedroom upstairs and because he drilled holes into that part of the roof, my bedroom had slow drips in 6 places. I had to have that roof recoated to stop the continual leaks on the new roof he installed. The roof on the new roof he installed continually leaked.
My kitchen was fully remodeled in 2008 via Home Depot and Rich Quackenbush Construction. I have all those receipts and photos as proof nothing was wrong with my kitchen until the storm and Manny’s remodel.. I had a Christmas Party the week before and those photos clearly show a beautiful cozy Martha Stewart style kitchen.
Because of the damp air, I could not use my furnace. All the ducting under the house had standing water inside. Because he changed the floor plan, all my ducting had to be replaced rather than cleaned. The furnace company said there is a chance my furnace will fail during the winter because some moisture likely entered the system.
When he tore off the roof, water filled all the can lights and light fixtures and he replaced all of the cans with high-end LED forever lights. He cut all the holes too big and all are out of alignment. He began installing new tongue and groove knowing the lights were out of alignment. All the tongue and groove ceiling around the lights has to be removed and recut. I contacted the lighting supplier and they had no solution for the holes being too large. He also replaced all the receptacles in a different color because he liked that color better. So now the rest of my house receptacles don’t match.
He nailed the tongue and groove on the surface instead of the valley and all the holes have to be filled. The ends of the boards have gaps. He trimmed out one set of cabinets in the laundry room and did a horrible job. He reframed the cabinets around the fireplace using mixed lumber. Nothing is square. He did not use clamps and because he used mixed lumber all had to be sanded, clamped, filled, some boards replaced and repainted.
He installed two pedestal sinks using molly bolts. Both came loose from the wall. When I pointed this out he said, “Molly bolts hold 250 lbs. and they should not have fallen from the wall”. He clearly had never installed a pedestal sink. The walls had to be opened up, a board installed and drywall repaired and re-installed. He scratched the chrome on the glass shower doors during installation.
The bathroom light fixtures were off level from each other by 1.5 inches. The wall had to be opened up, one fixture moved, drywall repaired and light reinstalled. He did not know how to install the claw foot tub. He did not use washers. Tub leaked and damaged my brand new hardwood floor and baseboard. He blamed me for not telling him he needed to put washers in the chrome supply lines. The water is shut off because the waterlines he installed leak under the bathroom.
He did not know how to install laundry room cabinets. He damaged the cabinets when he cut it down to fit and the trim does not fit in the space he left and the cabinets next to the one he cut down stick out from the other. Those cabinets are being thrown out and new cabinets have to be installed. His opening for the bathroom door was in the wrong place and hits the toilet when opened. The door had to removed and the toilet repositioned so the door would open.
He installed the exterior door wrong and it does not open all the way. He nailed finish nails into the beautiful trim by each hinge instead of under the rubber. There are 34 nail holes in the frame. The door has to be removed and re- positioned. All of his plumbing leaks. 2 electrical outlets do not work. There may be more but all the wiring is not connected. He did not install p-traps. The plumbing under my house leaks.
One very disturbing thing he did was created a design that meant he could tear out all of my perfect and beautiful beams and vintage car-decking in the ceiling. I argued repeatedly with him about removing these beams and finally I gave in because they no longer worked with his ridiculous design. His design included diagonal stairs. The stair height on one end is 8.5 inches and on the other 9.5 inches. I am a senior citizen and these steps are too high. When I complained about anything he mocked me and said my home was ugly and out of date. When I questioned him about his hours and expenditures he would say I didn’t remember or that I had agreed on things I had not.
He scratched my new gas stove. He pushed against my new refrigerator and the brads on his Whistle Wear pants made a divet in the front panel. I called him on it immediately and he blamed the drywall finisher who was never near the appliances.
The soffit for the new roof is not square. The new roof does not fit with the old roof and the soffit boards are uneven. He slapped up some boards to patch the old boards and it looks terrible. He used 12” rafter boards instead of 8 “ and the fascia board is 12” and looks ridiculous. He used 8” studs instead of 6 “ studs and this greatly increased my costs and I lost square footage.
He missed every deadline. First he was going to be done in February. Then in April. Then in June. Nearly every time he came back he damaged something. He claimed it was because “you keep changing things”. He’s talking about me begging him not to remove my tongue and groove and beams. Finally I gave in because his design looked wrong with them in place.
During the tear out he let the roof fall onto a newly remodeled stair well damaging the handrail and the steps. All the steps have to be sanded and coated, the bottom step replaced, hand rail replaced.
He did not know how to finish off the hallway where he tore out the roof and installed a support beam. He left this for me to figure out. The drywall guy figured out a fix and did me a favor and reframed the beam.
The trim around the windows in my office has to be replaced. The windows are uneven and the trim is amateurish.
He used his pliers directly on the new faucets and damaged every fixture. All have to be replaced.
He wore boots that caught rocks and scuffed my floors. I had to follow him around and constantly tell him to be careful. He laid on my hard wood floors with rivets digging into the new flooring. He muscled a cabinet into the bathroom and dropped it and gouged my floor.
He did everything out of order. The kitchen sink he installed leaks from the bottom. He cut the holes for the light switches too big and even an oversized cover plate does not hide it. There is water leaking under my house.
One day I heard him and the plumber Carlos Salazar arguing and Manny had cut through a water line Carlos had just installed. The plumber walked off the job. His ducting design was wrong and I heard the owner from Dynamic Utility Service tell him that I would be charged more for the changes he made. I’ve contacted all the vendors he brought to my house and all refuse to work with him again. As a side note, he led the vendors to believe he was dating me. I’m 30 years his senior.
On my final confrontation with the list of damages he responded by saying, “I never told you I knew how to do all this stuff”.
I can give you more details about his inappropriate comments and behavior and my awareness of how I was manipulated. He is overly friendly, pushy and demanding. He played romantic music on his speaker even after I told him I didn’t like it. After he lost his workers, I filled in ash is helper. The days I worked alongside him he made sexually suggestive comments. As an example if I pushed wire through a drill hole and said, “it’s through the hole”, he would say “that’s what she said” or make a groaning noise. I either said, “stop it” or ignored him. I tolerated this behavior because I just wanted to get the job done.
I believed he was licensed. He showed me his license and I believed he was operating legitimately. I believed he would make arrangements with the permit people. Although we did not have a written contract, I have many witnesses that he behaved as the contractor. Bought materials as a contractor and told people he was my contractor. Home Depot Manager will testify to this. He put my name and credit card on his Home Depot and Dunn Lumber accounts without my knowledge.
Manny Regalado bought tools with my money and kept the tools. He stole an extension ladder. He bought items for other jobs using my credit store cards. I have hundreds of receipts all representing trips he made to Home Depot from the job site. He left the job site every day multiple times for “diet sodas”.
He bought lunch for his crew using my credit card claiming this was his way of creating team work. I made it clear that my credit card was for supplies not food.
I read the reviews for his former business MR Design of Los Angeles on Yelp and Ripoff Report. I asked him about those reviews and he said that he had a partner named Ron Swing and it was Swing who committed the fraud and that these people were coming after him because Swing didn’t pay them back. He said he never took anyone’s money. I read his responses to the claims and they seemed reasonable. He claimed he was a celebrity contractor and performed on television remodeling shows. He also said he won awards on Porch.com and Houzz.com. I was able to confirm that he was a preferred contractor during this time with Home Depot. He is no longer recommended by H.D. And there are references to him on Porch and Houzz apparently gave him an award adding to his credibility.
One of his sub-contractors told me that He told him my house was the first house he’s ever remodeled. He told me he had done dozens of insurance jobs in Los Angeles County. It appears he has never been held accountable either in Los Angeles or Seattle.
